The ColumnsWalnut @ the Courthouse

Description: Located in the downtown area, this avenue displays both the columns from one of the original UMC buildings and the pillars from the original courthouse.

Mini Statue of Liberty
7th and Broadway

Description: The Boy Scouts of Columbia placed this small-scale replica of the Statue of Liberty at the Gentry Building in 1950. The plaque notes that the statue was dedicated as a pledge of everlasting fidelity and loyalty. The local project was a component of the Scouts' national 40th anniversary celebration which had Strengthen the Arm of Liberty as its theme. More than 200 replicas were placed nationally as a result.

Description: Eero Saarinen, designer of the St. Louis GatewayArch, also designed this gracious building which features a unique 4-foyer design.

Jewell Cemetery State Historic Site

Description: This is the burial site of educator William Jewell, and his nephew Missouri Governor Charles Henry Hardin, who served during 1875-76. Neatly cut, but unmarked headstones are believed to be the last resting place of slaves who belonged to these families.

Description: The Big Tree is considered to be one of the largest living oaks in our area. Seeing it is believing it - it's huge! Description: Tour this beautiful, ornate 1928 vaudeville-movie house that still hosts performing arts productions. It now the home to the Missouri Symphony Society. On the National Register of Historic Places.

Description: Located on the University of Missouri campus, the society houses reference and newspaper libraries, historical manuscripts, photos, maps and genealogical records. Art gallery features works by Missouri artists including Bingham and Benton.

Description: Possibly Missouri's most extensive collection of historical dress. This collection includes more than 12,000 items such as designer pieces, wedding dresses, beaded gowns, a designer collection by Oleg Cassini, plus footwear, handbags and jewelry dating back to the 1730s. At Lela Raney Wood Hall, Stephens College.

Cole County Historical Society Museum

Description: Historical artifacts and documents of Cole County housed in an 1871 Federal style, four-floor row house. First section portrays a typical upper-class Victorian home resplendent with artifacts from Jefferson City and Cole County mansions. Second section includes many gowns and other clothing worn by first ladies of Missouri, governors, their children and leading citizens of Jefferson City and Cole County. There is a Civil War room, displaying artifacts from both the Northern and the Southern sides. The top floor is full of dolls, toys and such.

Description: The mansion was constructed in 1871 as the official residence of Missouri's first family. Guided tours of the authentically restored first floor are offered. Reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance.

Description: This site is comprised of buildings dating to the mid-1800s, when they were a center of river trade. The Lohman Building offers exhibits and a film; the Union Hotel contains the Elizabeth Rozier Gallery, which features rotating exhibits.

Description: Call to schedule your tour of this 100-year-old French Renaissance red-brick building, with its massive marble staircase, courtrooms where the state's most important cases have been argued, and beautiful two-story public reference library.

Missouri Veterans and Law Enforcement Memorials

Description: These two memorials are located on the North side of the Capitol grounds. The Veterans' Walk is a limestone colonnade with a terraced waterfall, reflecting pool and eight monoliths; it honors all Missouri veterans. The Law Enforcement Officers Memorial pavilion honors those who have given their lives in the line of duty.
