The Missouri Children's Museum offers a wide range of learning opportunities for homeschool families throughout the year - from traditional learning toys to a well stocked arts & crafts center, from our homeschool programs led by a homeschool mom to challenging activities and classes for all, we're one place you'll enjoy again and again throughout the year with your children.
On Thursday, September 19th, come for a visit during our free Open House - from 11:00 to 1:00 homeschoolers can tour our facility with their children, speak with our homeschool program coordinator, and play-to-learn with their children.

Mother's Day Brunch

Treat the well-deserving mother in your life to something she’ll really enjoy — a delicious brunch. These restaurants are open on Mom’s special day:
• Huevos rancheros, brioche French toast and buttermilk pancakes are just some of the items on the brunch menu at Bleu Restaurant & Wine Bar (29 S. Eighth St.). Patrons will be served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; entrée prices vary.
• Mom can kick back with a Bistro Mary, mimosa or espresso martini to go along with her brunch at Les Bourgeois Blufftop Bistro (12847 W. Highway BB, Rocheport). Diners are welcome from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; entrée prices vary.
• Grand Cru Restaurant (2600 S. Providence Road) serves brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Adults can enjoy the roasted turkey, roast beef and strawberry crepes for $21 per person; children ages 4-10 may eat for $10.50.
• Order the French toast bread pudding or lobster brioche this Sunday at Mackenzie’s Prime (131 S. 10th St.). Brunch is served from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; entrée prices vary.
•Boone Tavern (811 E. Walnut St.) offers a breakfast buffet from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., including peel-and-eat shrimp, chocolate-covered strawberries, honey-glazed ham, omelets, waffles and other scrumptious dishes. The buffet costs $19.95 for adults, $17.95 for seniors and $8.95 for children ages 3-12.
•Courtyard by Marriott (3301 LeMone Industrial Blvd.) holds its fourth annual Mother’s Day buffet from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Breakfast items include waffles, omelets and biscuits with gravy; brunch options include canapés, roasted chicken with herbs, chilled shrimp and more. Adults eat for $18.95, seniors for $16.95 and children ages 6 and older for $9.95.
• Brunch at Hemingway’s Wine & Bistro (3910 Peachtree Drive) includes eggs, pastries, crepes, carved pineapple ham and more. Columbians are welcome to come dine between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Brunch costs $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $8 for children ages 6-12.
• Mother’s Day Buffet is served in the Windsor Ballroom of the Holiday Inn Executive Center (2200 I-70 Drive S.W.) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The buffet costs $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and $9 for children ages 4-12. Missouri Children's Museum
A new children's museum - Missouri Children's Museum - is coming to Columbia, MO and is scheduled to open this fall.
You can become a fan and follow the progress on their Facebook page, take the survey for families with children, or check back here as more information is released.
The plans include a fully stocked arts & crafts center, hands-on science & math activities, and a variety of other dynamic, interactive exhibits to spark imaginative learning through play.

4th Friday Kid's Night Out: August 28
Each month, on the fourth Friday, the Parks & Recreation Department hosts the 4th Friday Kids Night Out at the Stephen's Lake Activity Center from 6:00pm to 9:30pm.
For just $15 per child, kids enjoy three-and-a-half hours of fun making crafts, playing games, having a snack and watching a movie while their parents have some time out on the town!
Pre-registration is required, so if you'd like to sign your child up for the August 4th Friday Kids Night out - call 573-874-7460, or register online!
The program is for children 4 to 10 and potty-trained 3-year olds may join older siblings. It is recommended that children wear play clothes that can dirty (arts & craft projects).

Description: The Boy Scouts of Columbia placed this small-scale replica of the Statue of Liberty at the Gentry Building in 1950. The plaque notes that the statue was dedicated as a pledge of everlasting fidelity and loyalty. The local project was a component of the Scouts' national 40th anniversary celebration which had Strengthen the Arm of Liberty as its theme. More than 200 replicas were placed nationally as a result.

Description: Historical artifacts and documents of Cole County housed in an 1871 Federal style, four-floor row house. First section portrays a typical upper-class Victorian home resplendent with artifacts from Jefferson City and Cole County mansions. Second section includes many gowns and other clothing worn by first ladies of Missouri, governors, their children and leading citizens of Jefferson City and Cole County. There is a Civil War room, displaying artifacts from both the Northern and the Southern sides. The top floor is full of dolls, toys and such.

Description: America's longest "rails-to-trail" project, formerly the MKT rail line, is flat and scenic. It's ideal for hiking, running, or cycling on just about any kind of bike. The Katy Trail is a 225 mile (365 km) bike path stretching across most of the state of Missouri. Over half of it follows Lewis and Clark's path up the Missouri River, where you can ride beneath towering river bluffs while eagles circle overhead. After leaving the river, the trail meanders through peaceful farmland and small-town Americana.
